The sound of music and its melody that speaks to my soul, beautifully crafted literature and discovering new places is what inspires me.
People who have overcome their own hardships and struggles in life I find truly inspiring.
And last but not least, fellow artists, illustrators, painters and mixed media creatives, who have honed their own craft, is what inspires me to keep going.

My preferred pencil is 4B which is quite versatile for shading, texture and tonal range. The other items required are smooth white paper, eraser, pencil sharpener, tissues and a clean soft brush. Good lighting also plays an important part for better accuracy and potential success of your drawings.
Please share with me your thoughts on what works for you, I'm always interested in other artists perspectives and recommendations.

My name is Sharon and originally from Cape Town, I'm a self-taught sketch artist, now living and working in Johannesburg, South Africa.
By chance, in early 2019, it started off as a doodle after being inspired during a spiritual meditation session. The drawing was that of a meditative mudra hand symbol. On inspection, I thought to myself, it wasn't too shabby for a first attempt and was encouraged to explore my creativity further.
What I found was that drawing takes
me to a place where I'm completely immersed in the experience, where time stands still. Its a form of therapeutic restoration that is undeniable. Its like they say, "Once you start you can't stop" and that's when The Hungry Pencil was born and sharpened again and again...!
I draw when I have spare time which is outside of my fulltime profession. So I wanted to share with you my creative journey and look forward to making new connections with fellow aspiring artists, including those who appreciate portrayals of life.
